ZONTA MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
New Member Process
Zonta membership is by invitation. A club member may sponsor a new applicant, or applicants who come to the club via the Web site may be sponsored by the club membership at large.
Upon receipt of an application from the potential member, the applicant is presented to the club board for approval. Zonta International’s bylaws stipulate that for membership to be granted an applicant should be actively engaged in a business or profession at the 50% level or higher, in a decision-making capacity, and that the applicant subscribe to the mission and objects of Zonta International and the club.
After receiving approval from the board, the potential member is sent a letter of invitation to join the club. Following the club’s receipt of initial dues and new member fee, the new member is inducted into the club at the next scheduled program meeting.
In addition to induction, new members are asked to attend an orientation meeting to familiarize them with the club’s operation and the history and purpose of Zonta International.
Responsibilities of Membership
Club members are expected to attend as many monthly dinner program meetings and special club events as possible, but should plan on attending no fewer than two club events annually. Members are also encouraged to participate in Area, District, and International events.
The Zonta Club of Pasadena is a service organization. Members are encouraged to become active in local organizations that provide service to women and children. The club also has its own service project and members are invited to become actively involved.
During the 2004-2005 program year, the club service project is a leadership training workshop for officers of high school service clubs at two local schools.
Fee Structure
Membership dues in the Zonta Club of Pasadena are $160 per year. This includes dues to Zonta International of $68 and to Zonta District of $25. Zonta dues retained by the club are used for operational expenses.
In addition to the annual dues, new members pay a one-time new member fee of $20. This amount is sent to Zonta International and covers processing costs.
Members joining after December 31 pay a reduced annual fee of $80 but must still pay the $20 new member processing fee.
In addition to annual dues, there is a charge for monthly dinner program meetings, which covers the cost of the meal. Special events also carry a fee that covers expenses.
After the initial dues payment, annual dues are assessed in February and due by April 1 for the succeeding program year. The Zonta program year begins June 1.
In addition to annual membership dues of $160 which are divided between
the chapter, District 9 and International, Club members pay $150
annually as a service responsibility to support the service projects of
our local club.
An approximate estimate of total cost of membership for the year: $500.
